    HISTORY

The history of the Trofeu ciclista Pla de Mallorca begins in 1984 when a group of about 20 friends from the Pla de Mallorca region decide to hold a competition, among themselves and unofficially, for the simple fact of practicing a sport. Such was the success of the event that the following year (1985) they already decided to hold the competition officially together with the cycling federation, although no cyclist who was not from the Pla de Mallorca region could participate.

With the passing of the editions, the number of participants increased notably, until in 1995 two tests had to be held on the same day. The first called “Pla petit” (approx. 50 km) was still for local runners. The second named "Pla gran" (approx. 100 km) would be open to all federated participants in the different Master categories. In 2010, with the event well established and over 25 years old, the two competitions are opened to all federated cyclists, whether local, national or international, this action allows the participation of illustrious cyclists in the competition, as is the case by: Lluís Mas, Joan Horrach, David Muntaner and Albert Torres among others.
In 2018 the direction of the test is renewed, the one who until 2017 was the organizer and founder of the Tomeu Arbona cycling race, hands over his responsibilities to Miquel Rosselló. With the new management, the event is modernized and a series of changes begin. Among the most notable changes, a renewed and current website, as well as the creation of social networks, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube channel, which gives it greater visibility. It is proposed to the Balearic Federation, approving it later, that CADET runners can compete in the "Pla petit" betting very strongly on base cycling. All this has a positive impact on registrations, breaking historical participation records and even having to reserve participants for exceeding the limit of cyclists imposed by the UCI in 2018. In 2020, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the organization is forced to postpone the 36th edition to 2021. In 2021 some of the most significant changes in the history of the race arrived, for the first time, the planned stages were held on consecutive days and a new website was inaugurated in 3 languages, Catalan, Spanish and English.
